The Story Behind Funny Mix
Hi! I’m Jaclyn Paris, creator of The FUNNY MIX Superhero Phonics Game.
After years of teaching children how to read, including many students who struggled with early literacy, I wanted to create something different: a game that would make learning to read naturally exciting for children who love superheroes.
The idea first came to me at home. Both of my boys loved playing with Pokémon cards, but only my older son could read the characters’ names. Watching them play sparked a question in my mind:
What if I could combine superheroes with phonics?
That moment inspired the creation of FUNNY MIX.
How FUNNY MIX Helps Kids Learn to Read
FUNNY MIX is built on key early literacy skills that research shows are essential for learning to read.
As children play the games, they develop important reading abilities:
• Hearing and identifying individual sounds in words (phonemic awareness)
• Recognizing all 26 letters and their sounds (phonics foundations)
• Blending sounds to read 3-letter and 4-letter words (short and long vowels)
• Decoding silly pseudowords — the ultimate test of true decoding ability, showing children can apply their phonics skills to read brand-new words.
Instead of traditional flashcards, children meet fun superhero characters whose names are real, decodable words, making practice feel like a game.

My greatest hope is that FUNNY MIX helps children become confident reading superheroes!
Classroom Shows, School Clubs, & Summer Camps!
I enjoyed seeing how much children loved playing the FUNNY MIX Card Game, so I created a large deck of FUNNY MIX Cards and began presenting interactive classroom shows!
Children get to activate the FUNNY MIXERS’ powers while strengthening their own reading powers. The show is filled with exciting activities, creative props, fun games, and every child gets multiple opportunities to participate!
I later expanded the program to include even more activities, props, games, and crafts for after school clubs and summer camps!
